On this Williamsburg-made chair, the maker augmented the neat and plain form with ornamentation taken from Chippendale's Gentleman and Cabinet-Maker's Director (the bowknot on the splat), and the cast-iron warming machine first used in the Capitol at Williamsburg (the anthemion on the crest rail).
