High Chest of Drawers (Base)
Rappahannock River Basin, Virginia, 1745-1765
Black walnut with yellow pine

First owned by the Finch family of King George County, Virginia, this now fragmentary high chest of drawers apparently saw hard use in the nineteenth century. The entire upper case and all of the drawers disappeared long ago. Sometime before the 1950s, the remaining base was turned into a table by adding a new walnut top and drawers, since removed.

The high chest form never gained widespread popularity in eastern Virginia. Consequently, this example is important, even in its incomplete state.
