After 1600 tens of thousands of “Wan Li” dishes were imported into Europe usually packed in barrels filled with straw. The rectangular panels around the rim contain prunus flowers, calligraphy scrolls, and a broad leaf motif. The English copies of this pattern, like the example in the drawer above, blend European design with Chinese iconography.
