Painted Chinoiserie Panels, ca. 1696
After work by Robert Robinson (English, 1651–1706)
Reproduced for the Milwaukee Art Museum by Jennifer Novack
Copied from originals at the Victoria & Albert Museum, London

Robert Robinson painted wildly imaginative landscapes for merchant houses in London. The three paintings seen here were part of a series of eleven panels that decorated an entire room, providing glimpses at every turn into an outlandish world of rich costumes, fantastical vehicles, and lush foliage.
