& by the elasticity of the back as well as the bottom his sit is rendered very com-
fortable. In this manner, the bended pieces of the back & bottom are braced
to that there is no liability of these pieces ever straightening out or warping so as to
disfigure the looks of the chair. The legs & other parts of the chair are made
as other chairs are with straight or crooked legs & cross bars as fancy may dic:
tate. The said bended pieces of wood composing the back & bottom are screwed on to the back & front cross bars of the seat into which they are let, so that the top sur:
face of those cross bars are even with these pieces.
Great & common armed chairs are also made upon this plan, with
arms bended in such a shape as may be wanted. These are also elastic in their
backs and bottoms & are the most agreeable seats imaginable, & at the same time
very strong & light. Sofa seats are also made in the same manner with bended
back in that the same which forms the back
or seat of the sofa. They are cool, comfortable & elegant seats.
Chairs & other seats made in this manner with pieces of proper wood
bended so as to form the back & bottom, & the bend of some of them projecting
back so as to operate as braces to the others, may be made with less expence
much stronger than the common mode of making chairs.
