With Table 1: Murmur, collaborators E.G. Crishton and Susan Working poignantly explore our relationship with familiar objects. They ask us not to take for granted the living materials, such as the wood of this table, that are fashioned into the tools we use for everyday living. Here, functionality is laid aside in favor of something that elicits contemplation. The video embedded in the slanted tabletop initiates a disorienting and haunting visceral experience. The close cropping, continues movement, and absence of sound in this Aspen forest remind us that trees are the progenitor of wood and that civilized life can possess its own brand of poverty.
