Study Station, 2006
Found wood and metal, leather, thread, brass, glass, hair
Lent by the artist

Study Station also looks like a school chair, and brings to mind countless uncomfortable afternoons spent under intense scrutiny. The strong spotlight hanging straight overhead dramatizes this sense that an examination, or even an interrogation, is being conducted. So, what exactly is being studied at this station? Presumably, Peteran himself. The mysterious brass instrument contains a single strand of Peteran’s hair, magnified for inspection as though to capture his DNA. Ideally, he would be sitting in this chair, under the spotlight, and would stay there for the run of the exhibition.
