Easy Chair, ca. 1950
Maker unknown
Mahogany and new upholstery
Lent by a private collection

The Colonial Revival style has remained popular in domestic interiors. This easy chair, probably made in the 1950s or 1960s, is based on a colonial form, although its elongated back and narrow wings deviate somewhat from traditional design. So, too, does the heraldic upholstery, which flaunts the imagery of European aristocracy and includes a Latin phrase that translates to: “one does not value things easily obtained.”
