The Governor's Palace was reconstructed on its eighteenth- century foundations in the early 1930s. It was refurbished in 1981, based on extensive historical research conducted by the staff of Colonial Williamsburg into Lord Botetourt's inventory, account books, cash books, and other documents that he sent back to England.
